Setting the Standard: ESR's Journey to Sustainable Waste Procurement with Sustainably

Throughout 2024, Sustainably partnered with the Institute of Environmental Science and Research (ESR) to provide support as it embarked on a journey to improve its approach to waste management procurement.  The collaboration began in 2023 with a comprehensive waste assessment conducted by Sustainably across all four ESR’s sites.  This thorough evaluation revealed key opportunities to enhance ESR’s waste services and led the organisation to revisit the market with a fresh, sustainability-driven waste services proposal.

The waste assessment results highlighted the need for a waste services contract focused on waste minimisation, landfill diversion, and long-term sustainability.  With these insights, Sustainably helped ESR develop a more targeted approach to its waste services procurement, highlighting the need for a waste partnership prioritising innovation, responsible disposal, and transparent reporting.  To ensure the success of the new contract, Sustainably also assisted ESR in developing a set of clear and impactful key performance indicators designed to keep the partnership accountable and focused on its sustainability goals.

Through these innovative practices, ESR is establishing a new benchmark for sustainable waste management within the public sector.  Sustainably’s expertise underscores how strategic, responsible procurement can deliver substantial environmental and operational benefits, driving long-term positive change for both the organisation and the community.  As a trusted partner, Sustainably continues to empower organisations like ESR to lead the way in sustainable procurement and make a meaningful impact on the environment.
